On February 20, the 23rd China (Shanghai) International Optical Industry Exhibition opened at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. As the first exhibition of the Chinese eyewear industry in the Year of the Snake, this exhibition, with the theme of "New Quality, New Momentum, New Vision", brought together the top forces of the global optical industry and demonstrated the infinite possibilities of Chinese eyewear design.
The scale of this exhibition is unprecedented, with a total exhibition area of 115,000 square meters, an increase of 59.8% over last year. The number of exhibitors exceeded 900 for the first time, of which 213 were new exhibitors. The scale of the international exhibition area expanded by 62% year-on-year, attracting 165 international exhibitors and 340 brands from 23 countries, including world-renowned brands Essilor, Zeiss, Hoya, Connet, Mingyue,XingJi, Wanxin, etc. In addition, international emerging brands such as Germany's OBE and Japan's Akitto also made their debut, showing the latest technology in global eyewear manufacturing.
It is worth mentioning that Chinese original designs shined at this exhibition. In Hall E2, the Chinese original eyewear designer team "Design Fan" attracted many eyes with its unique wooden structure display space. Designer Mr. Mei brought his Tongnian Muyu series of works, 90% of which are purely handmade, combining copper mortise and tenon joints with wooden frames, and has won the "Golden Dot Design Award" and "China Design Red Star Award". "This is the first time I have tried on this kind of glasses that combines traditional craftsmanship. It feels very special, both light and fashionable." A visitor exclaimed after trying it on.
The Chinese eyewear market has continued to grow in recent years. In 2021, the national eyewear product retail market size reached 85 billion yuan. It is expected that by 2025, the market size of lenses and frames will exceed 47 billion yuan and 37.6 billion yuan respectively. With the rise of Chinese original designers and teams, more and more Chinese designs are steadily "going overseas" and showing the unique charm of Chinese design on the international stage.
This exhibition adopts an internationally accepted modular layout, and 10 exhibition halls have built a full industrial chain display system integrating R&D, manufacturing and services. In addition, Halls E1, W1 and W5 have set up three theme image areas: New Quality Manufacturing, New Momentum and New Vision, respectively, which, combined with buyer interaction, bring a brand new exhibition experience to the audience.
